The aim of the project is to strengthen the shared cultural identity of the Hungarian–Romanian border region by exploring, preserving, and making widely accessible the cultural and historical assets of the area. The project includes the identification, digitisation, and database integration of relevant historical documents, as well as the creation of joint professional and public-oriented publications and programmes to support scientific research and enhance social cohesion in the region.
Project objectives and expected results
The overall objective of the project is to enhance the preservation, accessibility, and understanding of shared cultural heritage in the Hungarian–Romanian border region. By exploring, digitising, and systematising historical materials, the project supports cross-border cooperation, promotes cultural awareness, and strengthens the collective identity of the region.
The specific objectives of the project include:
- establishing a multidisciplinary cultural heritage knowledge base through the digitisation and integration of archival sources;
- improving public access to cross-border cultural heritage through digital platforms and educational tools;
- developing a multifunctional Archival Visitor Centre in Debrecen to support community engagement, cultural learning, and heritage-based tourism;
- enhancing cooperation between cultural institutions, researchers, and local communities across the border;
- supporting the understanding of historical cooperative movements and their contemporary relevance for rural development.
The expected results of the project are:
- a structured and searchable digitised database of historical documents and related materials;
- increased public awareness and accessibility of heritage resources through an interactive e-platform;
- improved physical infrastructure and visitor services through the establishment of the Archival Visitor Centre;
- strengthened cross-border professional networks and institutional cooperation;
- enhanced knowledge transfer and cultural dialogue among target groups, including researchers, educators, local communities, and the general public.
These results will contribute to long-term cultural, educational, and social benefits in the border region, reinforcing shared values and promoting sustainable cross-border cooperation.
